Steve Jablonsky scores Transformers: The Last Knight

Posted on June 23, 2017 by Dan Goldwasser

This spring, composer Steve Jablonsky recorded his score to Transformers: The Last Knight, the fifth film in the hit Transformers franchise, and his seventh film score for director Michael Bay. Scoring took place with an 82-piece ensemble of the Hollywood Studio Symphony, as well as a 32-person choir, at Warner Bros., and we’re delighted to present our exclusive photos!

Transformers: The Last Knight was initially conducted by Nick Glennie-Smith, but when we visited the sessions, James Sale had taken over conducting duties when Glennie-Smith left to join Hans Zimmer on tour. Recording was split between the strings during the day, and brass in the evenings.

In the booth, composer Steve Jablonsky ran the sessions, joined by scoring mixer Jeff Biggers. Also on hand were supervising orchestrator Bruce Fowler (additional orchestrations were done by YS Moriarty, Rick Giovinazzo, Walt Fowler and Carl Ryland), music editor Bryan Lawson, audio engineer/studio manager Lori Castro, ProTools recordist Kevin Globerman, and Paramount VP of Music Production Kim Seiniger.

Note: this session marks the first published gallery of imagery taken with the new camera procured this spring, and we want to express our infinite gratitude to the donors of our GoFundMe campaign, without whom this would not have been possible.
