Lorne Balfe scores Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

This past March, composer Lorne Balfe was at the MGM Scoring Stage at Sony Studios to record his score for the new Netflix film, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. The fourth film in the series was directed by Mark Molloy and stars Eddie Murphy returning as Axel Foley in his iconic role. Also returning is Harold Faltermeyers’ iconic theme from Beverly Hills Cop, which Balfe adapted into his retro 80’s synth and orchestra score. We’re delighted to be able to share exclusive photos from the scoring session with our readers!

The synths on Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

For his score to Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, Balfe utilized a slew of vintage synthesizers, curated by Lance Hill of the Vintage Synthesizer Museum. Balfe’s collaborators performed on those synths live with the orchestra, a new ensemble of veteran studio players and youth players, known as The RISE Orchestra, conducted by Raphaela Correa Lacerda. Balfe conducted a few cues as well.
