Fourteen years ago, Grammy Award winners Christine Brewer and Lynn Harrell joined forces with John Williams to record composer/pianist Randy Kerber’s stunning arrangement of Harold Arlen’s “Over the Rainbow” to benefit Save the Children Foundation. Conducted by the legendary John Williams and featuring soprano Christine Brewer, the track was recorded at Sony Scoring Stage—the same space where Judy Garland performed the original 72 years earlier.
The album, which was released in 2012, was part of Harrell and his wife Helen Nightengale’s efforts to support children in need through music. Their HEARTbeats Foundation has since become the Lynn Harrell Foundation, continuing his legacy after his passing in 2020.
Arranged by Randy Kerber and recorded with a 45-piece ensemble of the Hollywood Studio Symphony, the session was a remarkable tribute to the power of music. Scoring mixer Dennis Sands oversaw the recording.
Now, on the 14th anniversary of the session, we’re sharing a behind-the-scenes music video capturing this incredible moment. To learn more about the Lynn Harrell Foundation and its ongoing mission, visit Lynn Harrell Foundation. Also be sure to visit Christine Brewer’s and Randy Kerber’s websites!
